Glasgow Airport Rail Link (GARL), Strathclyde

At present, Glasgow Airport is not served directly by rail service, despite its close proximity to the Gourock/Wemyss Bay to Glasgow Central line. SPT is working on a new direct shuttle service from Glasgow Central to Glasgow Airport which will include enhanced infrastructure between Paisley and Glasgow Central to accommodate the new service as well as new infrastructure to take the railway into Glasgow Airport.

RWA Rail played a substantial role (on behalf of Strathclyde PTE and their principle consultant Faber Maunsell) in the development of a proposed timetable for the scheme. This highlighted a number of issues that needed to be resolved when progressing the scheme. The timetable that was developed was modelled in RailSys™ to determine the impact on the performance of services in the surrounding area.

The Glasgow Airport Rail Link Bill has been granted Royal Assent and it is expected that the link will open in 2010.
